KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting compounded defending champion Mohun Bagan's woes, beating the latter 2-1 in a Premier Division encounter of the Sahara Calcutta Football League on Sunday. The match played under lights witnessed a scrappy encounter.

Mohammedan Sporting earned the lead in the 17th minute when its Brazilian Striker Douglas da Silva found the net from a direct freekick.

Bagan came back into the match soon as its seasoned forward Dipendu Biswas scored the equaliser in the 20th minute following a Baichung Bhutia assist. The first session ended at 1-1. Mohammedan Sporting got the decisive lead in the 52nd minute. Former international Raman Vijayan scored the winner on being released unmarked by a through pass from Mike Okoro. Sporting successfully held on to the lead as Bagan failed to make use of the chances coming its way after the third goal of the match. The win helped Mohammedan Sporting tally eight points from four matches and gain the second spot in the league table behind topper East Bengal (on nine points from three matches).
