HYDERABAD: Gouru Revanth Reddy of Andhra Pradesh won the 20th National under-7 chess championship in Goa on Tuesday. Coached by National player Y. Sameer Kumar, Revanth finished with 9.5 points.
The Andhra boy hails from Kadapa district and is currently staying in the city to improve his game, which was evident by his eight consecutive wins. In the final round, Revanth outwitted Srinivas Venkatraman of Maharashtra to clinch the title.
Shivam Shrivatsav (UP) and Sai Akshay (AP) finished second and third respectively with nine points each.

Pooja, Bhanumathi win gold
B. Pooja Singh and Bhanumathi bagged a gold apiece in the 24th National sub-junior taekwondo championships for boys and girls in Ambala last week. Mahesh and V. Anitha picked a silver each, while P. Akhil won a bronze.
The Hyderabad Cricket Association will organise open selections for senior women cricketers from Telangana districts to pick the State team for the South Zone inter-State inter-zonal championship to be held from November 28 to December 3.
The trials will be held at the Gymkhana ground here on November 23 and 24 and the players are instructed to bring a copy of the age-proof certificate along with them. Players from Nalgonda, Medak, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Warangal, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Khammam and Mahabubnagar are eligible to attend.
Visakhapatnam will host the 22nd senior National women's weightlifting championship from December 10 to 14 at Swarnabharati Indoor Stadium. About 400 competitors from all over the country will vie for top honours.
The 20th AP State inter-District ball badminton championship for boys and girls will be organised by National Sports & Educational Development Association in Srikalahasthi from November 23 to 26, according to P.R. Mohan, tournament director. The organisers will felicitate the first Arjuna Awardee in the sport, J. Pitchaiah.
