Mumbai: Medium-pacer Ajit Agarkar has been cleared for the five-match one-day series in South Africa and will leave with the Indian team on Monday (Nov. 13).

Following a crack on the sesamoid bone of his left palm while fielding in the Champions Trophy, the National selectors had selected him provisionally in the 16-member squad. Punjab's V.R.V. Singh was named as the stand-by.

Agarkar passed a fitness test at the Bandra-Kurla Complex here on Thursday. "I took catches and had a hit in the nets,'' said Agarkar. The fitness test was conducted under the supervision of the Indian team physiotherapist John Gloster, who submitted a report to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

"Fortunately it was not my bowling hand and for the first few days I could not grip the bat. But the mobility has been restored now,'' said Agarkar.

The first of the five-match series against South Africa starts at the Wanderers, Johannesbrug, on November 19. Special Correspondent
