Congratulations to Rahul Dravid and his team for their historic win over South Africa in the Johannesburg Test. It was a team effort but more importantly through a big contribution from players like Zaheer Khan, S. Sreesanth and V.V.S. Laxman, who ironically were left out for the one-day series. This win should boost the team morale.

N. Mahadevan,

Only performance

Sourav Ganguly's successful comeback effort should be an eye-opener to the BCCI and the selectors. Why not use this as a new-found theory? Non- performers can be kept out for a short period and that will make them hungry to succeed. Let performance be the sole criteria to be in Team India and do away with the yearly contract system that only induces non-performance.

Ishwar C. Araballi,

Rana excels

Ace shooter Jaspal Rana won three gold medals and equalled a world record to silence his critics. His effort came as a whiff of fresh air at a time when there was disappointment in hockey. Rana did India proud as did Koneru Humpy in chess.

R.R. Sami,
