Doha: India's gold medal-winning performances in tennis on Wednesday were marred by another spat between Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi.
Even before the euphoria of having won the doubles gold could sink in, their differences came alive once again.
Bhupathi, when asked to react to Paes's comment to the media immediately after the doubles victory that he would not be playing with him again, retorted that it was all over for the duo as a team for India.
However, Paes clarified after the mixed doubles match that his earlier comments had been ``misunderstood''.
``I had been asked whether I would be playing on a regular basis with Mahesh. I said no because I have a partner on the circuit (Martin Damm). I will always play with Mahesh when it comes to India. He is the stalwart of the team and I would love to play with him when representing the country. There is obviously some confusion about what has been said,'' Paes said. PTI
