Udhagamandalam: The stage is set for the 123rd racing season in this hill station, according to Mr. B. K. Amanullah Khan, Secretary, Madras Race Club, who addressed the press here on Saturday. The 28-day season will commence on April 14 and will go on till June 16.
About 450 horses, 15 trainers and 40 jockeys will be in action. All the meetings would be held in the morning.
The Nilgiris 1000 Guineas will be run on April 27 while the Nilgiris 2000 Guineas on April 30 and the Nilgiris Derby Stakes on May 10. The Nilgiris Gold Cup, another popular race, will be held on May 14.
Inadequate rains notwithstanding the underfoot conditions are good for racing. — Special Correspondent
