HYDERABAD: Nikhat Banu from Hyderabad has been selected for the national junior table tennis camp at Bolepur (Shantiniketan) in Bengal from April 15 to May 5, according to S.M. Sultan, Associate Vice-President, Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI). Ranked No. 8 in the juniors and No. 22 in the youth category in the TTFI’s listings, she is the lone player from Andhra Pradesh to be picked for the camp.
The 10th standard student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Picket won a team gold in the South Asian championships at Karachi last year, on account of which she represented the country in the Asian championships at Singapore. In the Indian Junior Open, held at Pune last year, Nikhat teamed up with Ankita Das to clinch the silver in doubles.
Coached by Maduri Venugopal, the 15-year-old trains at the Gujrati Seva Mandal mostly and at the YMCA in Secunderabad. — Special Correspondent
