NEW DELHI: Unable to shake off her poor form, K. Humpy tumbled to her fourth defeat on the trot after the sixth-round encounter against top-seeded British Grandmaster Michael Adams in the Ruy Lopez Memorial chess tournament at Zafra, Spain, on Thursday.

Humpy’s 58-move loss with black in this Ruy Lopez Closed game ensured a last-place finish for her.

The victory helped Adams close in on Bulgarian leader Ivan Cheparinov. With just half-a-point separating the two contenders, their final-round clash will decide the title.
