CHENNAI: Eighth seed Saili Rane of Maharashtra upset top seed Anuradha Shrikhande of Air India to reach the under-19 girls’ singles semifinals in the all-India Krishna Khaitan Memorial badminton tournament here on Saturday.
Saili, who got past Anuradha in two tight games, will take on Sikki Reddy of Andhra Pradesh in the semifinals.
The other semifinal will be contested between Tanvi Lad and seventh seed Gauri Ghate, both of Maharashtra. Gauri effected another quarterfinal upset on Saturday when she beat second seed P.V. Sindhu.
In the boys’ under-19 category, top seed B. Sumeet Reddy got past sixth seed Akshit Mahajan of Haryana and set up a semifinal clash with Hirak Jyoti Neog of Air India. Hirak had earlier rallied from a game down to upset third seed Prakash Jolly in the quarterfinals.
Tamil Nadu’s last hope in singles, Aditi Anand in the girls’ under-13 category, was shown the door in the last eight by G. Ruthvika Shivani, the top seed in that category.
