Tintu Luka maintained her winning streak in Europe with a victory in the Amsterdam Open meet in Amsterdam on Saturday.
However, her timing of 2:03.62 fell below the expected standards in a women's 800 metres race that was run in rain. The field was ordinary and that reflected eventually in the timings.
Luka was looking for 2:01.30, the Olympic qualifying standard, but had to settle for a poorer timing than her last win in Karlstad, Sweden, which had come in 2:02.58.
The Indian record holder is expected to compete in Leuven, Belgium, on Aug 13.
American Bethany Praska, a 2:03 runner, was second in 2:05.01 and Israeli Eli Goldfarb third in 2:17.77.
In the men's 800m race, also run in pouring rain, India's Ghamanda Ram took the silver behind Trinidadian Jamaal James (1:48.71), but his 1:48.84 was well below par. — Special Correspondent
