Hemang K. Badani (94 batting, 194b, 12x4) and K.B. Arun Karthick (66 batting, 8x4) staged a fine rearguard action to guide Grand Slam to 247 for five against Jolly Rovers at stumps on the first day of a fourth-round TNCA first division cricket league match here on Sunday.
Opting to bat, Grand Slam was reduced to 94 for five before Badani and Karthick resuscitated the innings with an undefeated sixth-wicket stand of 153 runs. S. Suresh Kumar (46, 5x4, 1x6) played a good hand as well.
Vijay CC was in for a rude shock after it was bowled out for 199 by Young Stars at IC-Guru Nanak. Vijay Shankar (48, 4x4, 2x6) was the only one to offer some resistance even as the spin duo of R. Malolan Rangarajan (four for 85) and M. Suresh Babu (four for 36) wreaked havoc. In reply, Young Stars finished the day on 36 for one.
Riding on crucial knocks from captain R. Prasanna (68 batting (186b, 9x4,2x6) and veteran batsman S. Sharath (47 batting, 7x4), UFCC (T. Nagar) went to stumps at 217 for four against Aruna. Prasanna and Sharath have added 74 for the fifth wicket.
Indian Bank finished the day on 226 for seven after electing to bat against Globe Trotters. N.S. Chaturved (70, 170b, 8x4) and I.K. Rohit (56, 9x4) hoisted 100 runs for the third wicket. Opener S. Dinesh (40, 6x4) made a useful contribution. Off-spinner Prashanth Chandran bowled 35 parsimonious overs giving away 45 runs for his four wickets.
Y. Sunny Kumar Singh (75 batting, 103b, 7x4, 1x6) steered ICF to 263 for six at close on the first day against Falcon. Along with R. Amit Singh (47, 8x4), he raised 70 runs for the fifth wicket. M. Vignesh (42, 6x4) and R.M. Karthik got the team off to a good start notching up an opening partnership of 67 runs.
India Pistons shot out Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) for 122 after the latter decided to bat. Aided by opener V. Devendran's knock (51, 64b, 3x4, 3x6), Pistons responded with 111 for one in 45 overs at stumps.
