CHENNAI: With six Indians moving into the finals in various age groups, there is hope of rich returns this time in the Scottish Junior Open squash being held in Edinburgh.

Unseeded Karan Malik defied all odds to reach the under-17 final. In the quarterfinals Karan beat 3/4 seed Robert Downer from England.

In the semifinals he beat Arjun Gupta of Canada with a class performance. This is Karan’s first final in an international tournament.

In the under-11 boys’ section, Sandeep Ramachandran (u-11) won his round-robin matches to be in title contention.

Boys: U-19: Semifinals: Harinder Pal Singh bt Andrew Martin 9-5, 9-3, 9-4.

U-17: Semifinals: Karan Malik bt Arjun Gupta 9-6, 1-9, 9-7, 5-9, 9-2. Quarterfinals: Karan bt Robert Downer 9-10, 6-9, 10-8, 9-5, 9-5.

U-15: Semifinals: Mahesh Mangaonkar bt Douglas Kempsell 9-3, 9-4, 9-5

Girls (semifinals): U-17: Anwesha Reddy bt Samantha Cornett 9-3, 9-5, 9-5.

U-15: Aparajitha Balamurukan bt Emily Heyes 9-2, 9-5, 10-9.
