CHENNAI: Jerome Jorge Ebenezer of Don Bosco and A.S. Saughanthika of Chettinad Vidyashram emerged winners in the under-9 boys’ and girls’ categories respectively in the Chennai District chess championship here. While Saughanthika drew her seventh and final round game with C. Akhila (Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram), Jerome defeated S. Sooraj (PS SSS) in the last round.

S. Kaushik (Jawahar Vidyalaya) clinched the title in the boys’ under-15 section, while P. Balakannamma was the winner in the girls’ category. Asian junior chess champion, P. Karthikeyan, gave away the prizes.

Final standings:

Under-9: Boys: 1. Jerome Jorge Ebenezer (Don Bosco) 6.5, 2. Aravind V. (SBOA) 6, 3. Ronak Muthuraman (PSBB) 5.5, 4. Pranav Vijay (Chettinad) 5.5, 5. Vignesh B (PSBB) 5.5.

Girls: 1. A.S. Saughanthika (Chettinad) 6.5, 2. R. Manjula (St. Marion Primary School ) 6, 3. K. Nagadrithi (PSBB) 4.5, 4. Samantha S. (St. Michael’s Academy) 4.5, 5. C. Akhila (Bhavan’s Rajaji) 4.5.
