Bangalore: The Indian hockey team, which won the Asia Cup in Chennai in September defeating South Korea 7-2 in the final, was presented with cash incentives to the tune of Rs. 1 crore by the State Bank of India group at a function at the Golden Spa Resorts, on the City outskirts, here on Wednesday.

Every player got Rs. 5 lakh each in a function graced by the SBI Group Chairman, O.P. Bhatt.

“Our hockey players have made us proud with their exemplary achievement,” Bhatt said. The team was present in full strength along with the support staff led by coach Joaquim Carvalho.

The Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) Secretary, K. Jothikumaran thanked SBI for lending financial support.

“SBI’s gesture will provide the right encouragement for our players,” Jothikumaran said. — Principal Correspondent
