Hyderabad: The National Optimist championship will be held at the National Sailing School, Upper Lake, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh from November 16 to 21.

The six-day meet will be organised jointly by the National Sailing School attached to the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare, Bhopal under the auspices of the National Optimist Association of India (NOAI) and the Yachting Association of India. It will be conducted in conformity with the 2005/ 2008 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) and the current rules of the International Optimist Class.

Trapezoid course

Twelve races will be sailed over a trapezoid course, where boats will finish on the upwind leg, with scoring based on a low point system. There will be prizes for the first three places of the national championship, for each individual race, for the youngest sailor who completes all races that count in addition to cash amounts that will be announced in the sailing instructions.

The event is open to participants born on or after January 1, 1992 and are members of clubs affiliated to or registered with the NOAI. There will be an entry fee of Rs. 500 for each entrant. Those taking part must be capable of swimming at least 50 metres, to certify which, the respective club must submit a competence certificate. Each club must have an adult to look after its team.
