Mumbai: Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said left-arm spinner Murali Kartik’s accuracy enabled him set attacking fields. “This was not the case earlier in the series,” he added.

Dhoni also said categorically that Rahul Dravid was “rested” and not dropped for the game.

The Indian captain singled out Robin Uthappa for praise, calling him the find of the series. Dhoni said Uthappa had shown much maturity as a batsman. He lauded his lower-order batsman for their efforts.

Ponting surprised

Aussie captain Ricky Ponting said he was surprised by the omission of Dravid. “He had an ordinary series so far but that does not rule him out as a one-day player,” he observed.

Ponting gave Kartik much credit for his match-winning spell. “The top was a little soft, but he bowled well.”

He conceded that he was disappointed to lose two games in the series, in Chandigarh and here, from winning positions.

Among the Indians in the series, Ponting said Uthappa and Zaheer Khan performed well.

Though the match was a low-scoring one, it was exciting, both the captains felt. “There was something for the bowlers all through,” said Ponting.
