MUMBAI: South Central Railway (Secunderabad) scored its first victory in men’s Group ‘A’, surviving an onslaught from Maharashtra for a 97-78 win (54-42 half-time) on Tuesday night in the 24th United Phosphorous all-India Ramu memorial basketball tournament.

Western Railway got past Tamil Nadu Basketball Association (TNBA) 92-78 in a Group ‘B’ match.

The women’s competition saw South Central Railway start off with a 75-59 victory over an off-colour Western Railway in Group ‘B’.

The results: Men: Group ‘A’: South Central Rly. 97 (Nihal Yadav 25, Laxman 24, Liju Abraham 16) bt Maharashtra 78 (Saurabh Nissar 21, Adarsh Saxena 13).

Group ‘B’: Western Rly. 92 (Jasjot Singh 28, R. Dev 14, P. Ethiraj 13) bt TNBA 78 (Anbu Kumar 21, Sundar 19, Gopi 14).

Women: Group ‘B’: South Central Rly. 75 (Sindhu Biju 37, Balvinder Kaur 10, Rakhi Rajput 9) bt Western Rly. 59 (Menaka 18, Meenakshi 10, Rashmi 9). — Special Correspondent
