KOLKATA: Former India cricket captain, Sourav Ganguly, said on Tuesday that India’s ICC World Twenty20 victory was a super performance and praised Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s excellent captaincy throughout the championship.

Ganguly, under whose captaincy India played the 2003 World Cup final, said Dhoni rallied his young brigade into a winning combination.

“It is once in a life time chance to win a World Cup, be it in any format,” he said.

Amidst the jubilant occasion, he expressed his regret of not being a part of that momentous occasion.

“I do regret not being in the team that won the World Twenty20 title. An opportunity like this will never come to me in my lifetime,” he said.

No comparison

Asked whether he saw shades of him in Dhoni’s captaincy, Ganguly said there could never be a comparison on this count.

“How can I compare me with Twenty20 World Cup winning captain?” he asked. Ganguly said once India defeated South Africa and moved further in the tournament, he was sure the team would lift the cup.

“Even while watching the final, I experienced no tension because I was 100 per cent sure that India would pull it off,” he added.
