Chennai: Saurabh Tiwari’s superb 86 and medium pacer Abu Nechim Ahmed’s six-wicket haul helped India under-19 cricket team score a convincing 129-run victory over Bangladesh in the final of the tri-nation tournament in Colombo on Saturday.

Batting first, India was all out for 199 in 49.2 overs and then skittled out Bangladesh for 70 in 30.5 overs.

Coming in at 46 for three, Tiwari turned the tide in India’s favour making an elegant 86 off 88 balls, which contained five hits to the fence and five over it. Tiwari was the last man out.

Shreevats Goswami (24) and Virat Kohli (27) were the other notable contributors for India.

Rubel Hussain (three for 33), Golam Kibriah (three for 43) and K.M. Shakil (two for 49) were the successful bowlers for Bangladesh.

In Bangladesh’s reply, only Nazeer Hussain, who made a 21, put up some resistance to the Indian attack.

Apart from Abu Nechim Ahmed, Amanpreet Singh (two for 14) was among the wickets for the Indian side, according to a press release. — PTI
