Sao Paulo (Brazil): Romario hinted he is about to put an end to his long professional football career.
“Physically, I could keep playing,” the 41-year-old Vasco striker told Thursday’s editions of the O Dia newspaper. “But it’s really time to stop. Time goes by for everyone, and it’s not different for me.”
Romario, who helped Brazil win the 1994 World Cup in the United States, scored his 1,000th career goal in May, according to his count.
He was expected to retire after the goal, but continued playing sparingly with Vasco in the Brazilian league. He has said he will definitely not play in 2008, but hasn’t picked the exact date he’ll stop. — AP
