KOLKATA: India's campaign in the Golden Arrow Grand Prix archery tournament, third leg of the Meteksan World Cup, came to an abrupt end on Friday with both the men's and women's teams losing in the early stages of the championship at Antalya in Turkey.
According to information received here, the Indian men's recurve team, comprising Rahul Banerjee, Priyank and Tarundeep Rai, posted 224 points against a higher ranked the US 222 in the first round and lost to lower ranked Malaysia in the tie-break after the two teams tied 214-214 in the pre-quarterfinals.
Malaysia, which had upset second-seeded Japan in the first round, showed better nerve in the shoot-out garnering 26 points as against India's 24.
There were more upsets in the men's team event with Ukraine shocking Korea and the Netherlands surprising China in the pre-quarterfinals.
The Indian women's recurve side, consisting of Dola Banerjee, L. Bombayla Devi and Chekrovolu Swuro, went out in the first round losing to second-seeded China without any fight at 203-216.
