BANGALORE: Jayanagar Sports Club (JSC) retained the State junior basketball championship boys' title for the Dr. D.N. Rajanna Trophy, while Beagles annexed the Sosale Trophy for girls'.

At the Sree Kanteerava Stadium outdoor courts here on Wednesday, JSC subdued Indiranagar Basketball Club (IBBC) 68-57, while Beagles downed Viveks SC 49-39.

Far too many misses in the third and fourth quarters and a series of needless fouls cost IBBC in the final analysis. Traditional rivals that they are, the teams matched each other basket for basket although the Jayanagar side, boasting of a slightly better all-round game, enjoyed a marginal advantage throughout.

Minhal was in brilliant form with his timely conversions and rousing rebounds while Sujan, voted the best player of the tournament and presented with a cash award of Rs.10,000, played true to form, although he was guilty of missing three underboard shots in the fourth quarter.

For IBBC, Nityn revelled under the boards and kept the scoreboard ticking with crucial baskets, but both Gopi and Raam Reddy fumbled with some easy baskets after the interval. Also the exit of Gopi and Naveen in quick succession in the fourth quarter with five personal fouls each pushed IBBC to the corner.

Youg Orions finished ahead of Ambedkar SC in the four-team boys' league, while the corresponding place in the girls' section went to JSC.

Cash prized worth Rs.4,000, Rs.3,000 and Rs.2,000 were awarded to the top three teams in both sections respectively.

The results: Semifinal league (for title): JSC 68 (Sujan 23, Minhal 21) bt IBBC 57 (Nityn 22). Third place: Young Orions 70 (Vishal 16) bt Ambedkar SC 46 (Adeel Anees 28).
