BANGALORE: The Karnataka Athletics Association (KAA) will host the two-day Boost 12th World athletics meet at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on May 12 and 13 to commemorate the World Athletics Day.
The event will be held under the auspices of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF), which is supporting the meet Worldwide with nearly 155 countries hosting the event on the said dates.
The onus is on promoting and nurturing talents in the 14 to 17 age groups and 62 events for boys and girls in the age groups of 16 and 17 (participation from clubs) and 14 and 15 (schools) will be conducted. Participation certificates besides medals and certificates will be provided by the IAAF for this event.
The KAA, in its bid to `spot' and promote talents at the grassroots-level, will conduct events for boys and girls in the under-8, 10, 12 and 14 categories as well.
Over 1,600 entries, mostly from within the State and a few from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, have already been received. A 120-member contingent from Sri Lanka too will participate in this meet.
A `Run for Health' mass-run in and around the Cubbon Park on May 13 will also be conducted.
Meanwhile, the KAA's bid to host the 2009 Asian Track & Field championship has fallen flat after the track at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium has been `ruled' unfit for major championships. Principal Correspondent
