Tuticorin: Punjab beat Tamil Nadu 82-60, leading all the way from the start, in the men's four-team super league in the Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Trophy all-India basketball tournament at Tharuvai stadium on Tuesday.
In the women's four-team super-league, Western Railway registered a 71-55 victory over Central Railway, Mumbai. At the end of the third quarter, the teams were level 45-45. But Western Railway accelerated its scoring in the fourth quarter to beat Central.
Earlier on Monday night, Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Indian Army qualified for men's super league from their respective groups.

Indian Bank in semifinals
Indian Bank, Chennai entered the semifinals of the 24th annual Champion Club football tournament for the Universal Trophy defeating Nethaji Sports Club, Chennai 4-2 via tiebreaker at the Krishna stadium, Velangudi near Karaikudi on Tuesday. At the regulation time the teams were locked goalless.
In the tiebreaker Mike Sandhu, Amalraj, Ramesh and Siva scored for Indian Bank. Kali Allaudeen and Naresh scored for Nethaji SC.
Chennai Customs also made the last-four grade with a 2-1 victory over Sporting Union Football Club, Chennai.
Chennai Customs opened the account through Satheesh in the 69th minute. Kumar increased the lead converting a spot-kick in the 76th. Herysimen reduced the margin for Sporting Union converting a penalty in the 78th.
The 10th annual Kothaiammal Memorial Trophy State-level hockey tournament organised by Ever Great Hockey Club will get under way at the Thai Matriculation HSS and Government HSS grounds in Vadipatti near Madurai on Thursday.
Twenty teams, including defending champion, Tamil Nadu Special Police, FCI, AGORC, Chennai, Reserve Line Sports Club, Thirunagar Hockey Club and host Ever Great Hockey Club will be participating.
Nilgiris XI posts win
Nilgiris XI beat Universal Football Club, Calicut, 4-2 via tiebreaker in the inaugural match of the 42nd annual Abul Kalam Azad Memorial Trophy all-India football tournament organised by United Sports Club at the USC ground, Kayalpatnam, on Tuesday. At the end of regulation time the teams were locked goalless.
Universal Club could have clinched the issue during regulation time when it was awarded a spot-kick in the 12th minute, but Akkleish sent the ball out. In the tiebreaker Watson, Rajeev Kuttan, Nanda Kumar and Om Prakash scored for Nilgiris XI. Prasanth and Prasoon scored for Universal, Calicut.
