VISAKHAPATNAM: The Hindu-sponsored summer coaching camp of Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association commenced at the ACA-VDCA stadium here on Monday.

Nearly 20 girls are among the 200 players selected for the camp to be held in under-13, under-15 and under-17 age groups.

VDCA vice-presidents P.R. Narayanaswami and Vishnuvardhana Raju, its secretary and also secretary of Andhra Cricket Association K. Parthasaradhi, joint secretaries of VDCA GJJ Raju and JKM Raju, Chief of Bureau of The Hindu B. Prabhakkar Sharma were among those present.

Mr. Parthasaradhi and Mr. Narayanaswami thanked The Hindu for sponsoring the summer coaching camp year after year and also for supporting sporting activities at many places in the country.

For the first time, girls have been included in the VDCA camp this season.

Girls must make best use of the camp along with the boys, said Mr. Sharma who also explained the support being extended by The Hindu.

Andhra Pradesh player Savita Kumari and a young trainee Himabindu played a few shots.
