CHENNAI: The diamond jubilee celebrations of the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association (TNSCA) will be held at the RK Swamy Auditorium, Mylapore here on April 26.
Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, Manuel Aaron, Secretary, Tamil Nadu State Chess Association, said it was a great moment to celebrate 60 years of Tamil Nadu chess.
To make the event more memorable, Viswanathan Anand, World No.1 chess player, will grace the occasion. He will be honoured at the function. "The celebrations will begin with Grand Master Deepan Chakravarthy, V. Saravanan, and M.R. Venkatesh giving a 20-board simultaneous display each," said Aaron. TNSCA will honour four Grand Masters and three Women Grand Masters from Tamil Nadu excluding Anand, although Aaron said that only K. Sasikiran and Deepan Chakravarthy would be present at the function.
In the awards function, 15 players who won medals in National and International tournaments will be honoured for a total cash prize of Rs. 3,50,000.
D.V. Sundar, Secretary, All India Chess Federation, praised TNSCA for its organised and committed approach. J.C.D. Prabhakaran, senior vice-president, TNSCA, wished the State association all the best on the momentous day.
