GROS ISLET (St. Lucia): Ross Taylor's 85 was tempered by a hamstring strain but helped propel New Zealand to 331 for seven against Kenya, its highest World Cup total.

Skipper Stephen Fleming (60), Scott Styris (63) and Craig McMillan (71 from 48 balls) scored half-centuries on Tuesday, and New Zealand made 100 runs in the last 10 overs of the Group C match.

Thomas Odoyo returned Kenya's best figures, finishing with two for 55, with Peter Ongondo taking two for 64.

Sent in to bat, New Zealand opener Lou Vincent was out on the fourth ball without scoring, caught at second slip by captain Steve Tikolo off the bowling of Odoyo.

It could have been 12 for two but Taylor was dropped by a diving Tamray Mishra at square leg when on seven and New Zealand.

New Zealand punished that mistake, reaching 100 runs off 110 balls in the 19th over.

Fleming reached his 47th ODI 50 with three boundaries off Ongondo but was undone taking a needless single soon after, run out by Maurice Ouma from square leg.

Taylor reached his 50 off 80 balls and hit six 4s but strained his right hamstring in the 32nd over and needed Vincent as a runner.

He only lasted 10 more deliveries before popping a return catch to Tikolo. His innings contained eight boundaries and a big six out of the ground.

Styris survives

Styris, who led New Zealand to its six-wicket win over England with 87 not out and two for 25, survived two dropped catches before Mishra caught him at long-on off Lameck Onyango.

Styris got his first reprieve on 19 when Jimmy Kamande juggled the ball three times before dropping him in midwicket.

Styris reached his 50 off 56 balls and then was dropped for a second time by Tikolo, who got one hand to the ball at short midwicket but couldn't hold it.

Odoyo took his 100th career wicket in ODIs when he bowled Jacob Oram (3). Brendon McCullum made six before Hiren Varaiya dropped forward on his knees to hold an outfield catch.

McMillan hit four boundaries and five sixes before miscuing a slower ball from Ongondo to midwicket, where Tikolo ran forward to catch. AP
