BASSETERRE (St. Kitts): Andrew Hall took three wickets and Charl Langeveldt two for South Africa before Scotland made a late surge to reach 186 for eight in a World Cup Group `A' match here on Tuesday.

Both bowlers came on when Shaun Pollock and Makhaya Ntini in 11 overs could not dismiss either of Scotland openers Fraser Watts (24) and Majid Haq (13), who were then both out within four overs.

But Dougie Brown made an unbeaten 45 and put on 50 with John Blain (23) in nine overs to prop up Scotland's total after stand-in captain Ryan Watson (31) had earlier set the platform.

South Africa captain Graeme Smith won the toss and opted to bowl first, with Ntini's return for fast bowler Andre Nel the only change to the team that beat the Netherlands by 221 runs on Friday. Scotland was without captain Craig Wright, who has gone home for the funeral of a relative. Dewald Nel came in for Wright, while top-order batsman Navdeep Poonia was dropped for Neil McCallum. AP
