MOHALI: Unrelenting wet weather in Punjab has threatened to nip the Ranji one-day North Zone league cricket championship before it could blossom into any contest.

Delhi and Punjab face-off on Monday, but given the conditions it hardly looks that any ball will be played at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium here. Incessant rain on Sunday has forced the two teams to practice indoors.

With all the teams taking one point after their respective opening round matches were washed out on Saturday, there was hardly any inspiration for the players in the given conditions.

In Chandigarh, Haryana takes on Himachal Pradesh but the situation there was more bleak with the outfield slushy following two days of rain.

Services and Jammu and Kashmir are to meet in Ludhiana, but the downpour has left the ground flooded and very little hope of drying out for Monday's match.

Rains also marred the matches of the Central Zone and all four teams Rajasthan, Railways, Uttar Pradesh and Vidharaba shared two points each.
