Wayne Rooney's diving header after 53 minutes looked set to extend United's lead at the top to nine points but Robin Van Persie levelled after 82 minutes and Thierry Henry headed a dramatic winner in stoppage time.
United remains on 57 points from 24 games, six more than Chelsea. Liverpool has 46 with Arsenal on 45.

FC Barcelona reclaimed first place in the Spanish league after beating last-place Gimnastic Tarragona 3-0 on goals from Javier Saviola, Ludovic Giuly and Andres Iniesta on Sunday.
The win, Barcelona's first of 2007 and only its second in its last six matches, moved the defending champion above Sevilla on goal difference.
