KOCHI: N. Raghavendran and Raja picked three wickets each and Muthupandy hit a half century as Chennai’s Raghavendra XI defeated Kochi’s Cordiant CC by five wickets in the opening Group ‘B’ league match of the 59th Pooja all-India cricket tournament at the Tripunithura Palace Oval on Thursday.

Cordiant had won the first phase, an event for Kerala teams, a few days ago and qualified for the main phase. The Raghavendra XI, according to the officials of the host Tripunithura Cricket Club, was to appear as Parry SRC earlier but there was a change of name later.

The scores: Cordiant CC, Ernakulam, 160 in 39.5 overs (Krishna Chandran 44, Suresh Babu 29, Karthik Kumar 28 n.o., Raja three for 27, N. Raghavendran three for 24) lost to Raghavendra XI, Chennai, 161 for five in 30.5 overs (Muthupandy 52, Gowjith 39, Thyagarajan 30, Suresh Babu three for 37). — Principal Correspondent
