THIRUVALLA: A fiery spell by medium pacer S.K. Jithin (seven for 33) enabled Kollam take the first innings lead against Alappuzha in the South Zone under-14 inter-District cricket tournament at the Mar Thoma College ground on Tuesday.

The dismissal of Anju Jothin (49) triggered a collapse and Alappuzha, which started the day on a comfortable score of 81 for two in reply to Kollam’s first innings score of 169, was bundled out for 113.

Kollam in second essay was 190 for seven when play was called off. Kollam took three points for the lead.

At the Pathanamthitta Municipal Stadium, Kottayam was in dire straits against Thiruvananthapuram. The Thiruvananthapuram new ball bowlers reduced Kottayam to 44 for six in 24 overs. Earlier, Thiruvananthapuram was dismissed for 171.
