BARASAT: Mohammedan Sporting scored one in the injury-time to beat Hindustan Aeronautics Sports Club (HASC) 2-1 in a group-B league match of the 30th Federation Cup football here at the Vidyasagar Stadium on Monday.

Mahindra United held Churchill Brothers to a 2-2 draw in the other match of the same group. The contest for the semifinal berth in the group still remained open with Churchill Brothers and Mahindra United tied on top with four points each while Sporting remained close behind with three points. It was the end of the road for qualifier HASC, which has drawn a blank so far losing both its matches.

After playing a barren first session, Sporting went into the lead in the 53rd minute through Lalhirtuzala Tezoka who drove home a back-pass from Francis Nova. Sporting could not enjoy the lead for long as HASC found the equaliser in the 62nd minute off an opportunistic header by forward Dada Nabeel.

HASC had a golden opportunity of going into the lead earning a penalty in the 68th minute when its game-maker Xavier Vijay Kumar was brought down inside the Sporting box. Fredrik Okwagbe spoiled the opportunity finding his attempt from the spot coming off the Sporting upright.

Sporting found the winner in the injury-time when Jyothi Kumar nodded home a provision from Satyajit Bose.

Sushil strikes

Riding a series of attacks Mahindra United went into the lead off a Sushil Kumar goal in the 12th minute. Churchill Brothers stung back eight minutes later with T. Bineesh Balan fetching the equaliser.

Nigerian striker Okolie Odafa made it 2-1 for Churchill scoring from a 44th minute penalty, after he was fouled inside the Mahindra box. Mahindra United came back strongly in the second session and found the equaliser when its national team midfielder Steven Benedict Dias found the target in the 49th minute.
