BANGALORE: The Karnataka Olympic Association’s annual awards were presented at a glittering function held at Raj Bhavan here on Thursday.
Twentyfive sportspersons were honoured on the occasion which was attended by State Governor H.R. Bharadwaj, Sports Minister Gulihatti Shekar and State Assembly Speaker Jagdish Shettar, besides officials of various sports associations and sportspersons.
K. Govindaraj, president KOA, who spoke on the various initiatives of the KOA, requested the Government to consider levying a one per cent sports chess for the development of sports infrastructure in the State.
He also suggested building international class swimming pool and a cycling velodrome in the city.
Speaking on behalf of the athletes, former hockey international Ashish Ballal thanked the KOA for honouring young athletes as well as veterans.
He added that KOA’s support would go a long way in motivating the sportspersons in the State.
