KOLKATA: Chirag United defeated Mohammedan Sporting 1-0 in the seventh round of the I-League match at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Saturday.

Striker Gauranga Dutta scored the match-clincher in the 61st minute to lift his team to its second victory and log eight points. Sporting tasted its third defeat and stayed on six points.

The goal was the handiwork of Snehasish Chakraborty whose chip from the left enabled Subair Muritala Ali to chest the ball down on the path of Dutta.

The latter shot an angular left-footed volley that beat the Sporting goaltender Tharangachan.

The match winner apart the teams had scoring chances but all of them were wasted.

Substitute Abhishek Yadav slotted home a 70th minute equaliser to help Vasco Sports Club (Goa) share points with Mumbai Football Club after a 1-1 draw in the ONGC I-League match at the Cooperage on Saturday.

Yadav latched onto to the ball following a melee around the Mumbai FC goalmouth, resulting from a free-kick.

Mumbai FC had taken the lead in the first half with Felix Aboyage feeding the ball to K. Kulothungan to score off a header in the 25th minute. The draw took Mumbai FC’s points tally to 10 from six matches, while Vasco has two from seven matches.
