Chennai: Alwarpet’s Maruthi Raghav notched up a hundred while there were six-wicket hauls for Grand Slam left-arm spinner V. Arun Kumar and Young Stars’ pace-bowling all-rounder S. Satish Kumar on the second day of the first round in the TNCA first division league here on Thursday.
Arun took six for 15 as Southern Railway Institute, replying to Grand Slam’s 397 for three declared, was bundled out for 91 at the Railway ground.
Alwarpet, led by Huzefa Patel this season, progressed to 372 before being all out at the MRF-Pachaiyappa’s ground. Maruthi Raghav made 114 (203b, 9x4) while D. Vasu contributed 82 (121b, 11x4, 2x6). For Globe Trotters, brothers Gnaneswara Rao and Venugopala scalped three batsmen each. Trotters was 161 for three in reply, Gnaneswara unbeaten on 68 (119b, 7x4).
At the ICL-Guru Nanak ground, host Vijay was 151 for three pursuing Aruna’s 371 in the first innings. Opener Abhinav Mukund was unbeaten on 55 (135b, 6x4) while skipper R. Prasanna made 43. Earlier, Aruna’s Noorul Riaz (157, 378b, 20x4) and Kishore V. Nath (57) put on 140 for the fourth wicket. Paceman S. Vivek Raj claimed three wickets.
Young Stars’ veteran all-rounder Satish Kumar returned figures of six for 46 with his medium pace, as India Pistons, 210 for seven overnight, was bowled out for 257 at the CPT-IP ground. M.R. Shrinivas, in a rearguard effort, made 81 (201b, 11x4) for Pistons. Young Stars was 130 for two in reply with R. Prashanth (75, 157b, 9x4) and Badri Attavar (37 batting) adding 124 for the second wicket.
At the IIT-Chemplast ground, E. Suresh, resuming on 121, was dismissed for 144 (281, 19x4, 1x6) and Indian Bank, resuming at 255 for four, posted 433 in its first innings. Wilkins Victor made 61 (106b, 6x4) and Malolan Rangarajan chipped in with 45. Paceman Tinu Yohanan prised out three batsmen. Rovers was 131 for two in its first essay at stumps with S. Vidyut (46 batting) and Subramania Siva (71, 72b, 11x4, 1x6) at the crease.
The contest was delicately balanced after a dramatic day at the Murugappa ground. Pursuing 86 for victory in a low-scoring humdinger, Parry’s was nine for three in its second innings with UFCC (T. Nagar) paceman D.J. Gokulakrishnan picking up all three wickets.
