KOCHI: Kozhikode will host the women’s National ‘B’ chess championship from June 8 to 14.
“Apart from the National ‘B,’ we will also conduct three major all-India FIDE-rating tournaments during the next three months,” M.B. Muralidharan, who was elected the acting president of the Chess Association of Kerala recently after the resignation of P. Abdul Rahiman of Malappuram, said here on Thursday.
The three tournaments will be held in Palakkad (April 17 to 22), Thrissur (April 24 to 30) and Kochi (Cusat Open, June 24 to 30).
“We have also decided to promote chess in schools in a big way,” said Muralidharan, a former National ‘A’ player.
“This year, we will send 10 players in the under-15 age group for an intensive Grandmaster coaching camp in Chennai. These players will be selected based on last year’s performance.” — Principal Correspondent
