Mumbai: England will play seven ODIs and only two Tests, instead of the originally planned three, in November-December in India.
“The England players want to return home for Christmas and the second Test is scheduled to finish on December 23. England will arrive when India and Australia will be engaged in their fourth Test,” said Niranjan Shah, Secretary, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) treasurer, Ratnakar Shetty, said that the MCA has put a claim for the second Test and celebrate it as a Platinum Jubilee Test. India and England had played the first Test in India at the Bombay Gymkhana in December 1933.
The four Tests against Australia will be played at Bangalore, Nagpur, Delhi and Mohali. The report of the BCCI’s Programme & Fixture Committee will be placed before the working committee in Chennai on Tuesday. — Special Correspondent
