NEW DELHI: A five-wicket haul by Mohit Pandey and an all-round performance by Akash Sudan (46 and three for 15) helped Frank Anthony Public School to a 119-run victory over Balaji Academy in the semifinals of the ninth R.G. Williams memorial cricket tournament at the Frank Anthony School ground.
The scores: Frank Anthony Public School 217 for nine in 40 overs (Kapil Sachhar 81 not out, Akash Sudan 46) beat Balaji Cricket Academy 98 in 24.4 overs (Rupender Soni 40, Mohit Pandey five for 15).
Hat-trick by Ameet
Four goals including a hat-trick by Ameet Bhargav helped Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Chandigarh beat Jamal Mohammed College, Tiruchirapalli, 5-0 in a group ‘IV’ league match of the 15th SAIL Nehru Champion Colleges hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium here on Wednesday. Daljeet Singh scored the other goal for the Chandigarh team that secured a semifinal berth in the process.
In an inconsequential match in group ’I’, CRA College, Sonepat, defeated Sri Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College, Bangalore 6-1. Bijender (2), Balwinder (2), Sandeep Kumar and Naveen scored the goals for the Sonepat team. Hari Govindan scored the only goal for the loser.
In the semifinals to be played on Thursday, Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, will meet Jawaharlal Nehru PG College, Bhopal, while DAV College, Jalandhar will be challenged by Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Chandigarh.
ONGC posts win
Salau Nurudeen Olawale struck the match-winner as Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) beat Ahbab Club 1-0 in a group ‘A’ league match of the fourth Lt. Governor’s Cup DDA football tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Wednesday.
In another encounter, Jammu and Kashmir Bank played goalless against Garhwal Heroes.
Guillermo Tarera slotted in five goals as Cavalry Red defeated Horse and Wagon 9-8 in the Pool ‘B’ league match in the Maharaja Sir Pratap Singh Cup 14-goal polo tournament at the Army Equestrian Centre ground here on Wednesday.
Simran Shergill and Tunku Ismail Ibrahim scored two goals each as Reds nudged ahead of Horse and Wagon. Angad Kalaan was the top scorer of the day with seven goals, but he ended on the losing side. Samir Suhag was the other scorer for Horse and Wagon.

In the semifinals on Wednesday, Times of India beat Indian Express ‘B’ and Hindustan Times defeated PTI by identical 3-0 margins.
