BANGALORE: National sub-junior champion K. Chandana of P.M. Swim Centre overcame a sluggish start to race to victory and bagged the girls’ Group II (under-15) title in the State Games aquathlon championship at the MEG and Centre here on Saturday.
On a chilly and foggy morning marked by a steady drizzle, Chandana trailed in the 400m swimming segment. However, she set a hot pace in the 3-km run and finished the event in 17 minutes and 52 seconds, well ahead of Anvitha Shampur of BAC who came home in 19m 02s.
Navya Shenoy of BAC took the crown in the girls’ group I (under-18) section in 33m 11s.
In the boys’ section, Krishna Kumar and Sanu Saju, both of MEG, topped the group I and group II categories respectively. Krishna Kumar won in 29 minutes 24 seconds in a thrilling finish. Saju clocked 17 minutes 12 seconds to claim the gold in group II.
Manjunath, Kavitha win
Manjunath Patgar and V. Kavitha clinched the gold in the standard pistol event for men and women respectively. Manjunath scored 182 out of 300, while Kavitha topped the women’s section in the same event with 145 points.
Manjunath also played a key role in City Armed Reserve’s title triumph.
