Coimbatore: The JK Tyre 100 per cent tarmac rally for four wheelers will be flagged off from the Maharajah Fun Park here on January 26 at 4.30 p.m.
Sponsored by JK Tyre, the Time Speed Distance (TSD) event has attracted some of the top Indian rally drivers. T. Ravichandran, the force behind Hi-Rew Motorsports, said it is the first event in the Indian motor sport calendar.
“An event of this magnitude is being held here after a gap of 15 years. The rally will run from Coimbatore to Udhagamandalam and complete two days (400kms) of real action,” said Ravichandran.
“It is a basic form of rallying, and five different classes – professional, novice, students, family and all ladies – are planned to make the competition challenging and interesting. The rally will certainly test the navigational skills of the team and the perfection of the drivers. We have designed the route in such a manner that the drivers will not only enjoy but also take home sweet memories of the lush locale of Coimbatore and Udhagamandalam,” he added. The first car is expected to reach Udhagamandalam on January 26 by 10 p.m. After an overnight stay, the second leg will begin with a loop in and around Udhagamandalam before culminating at the Blue Hills Hotel the same afternoon.
