CHENNAI: Dipika Pallikal has reached the semifinals in the under-17 girls section in the British Junior Open squash being held at Sheffield.
The Indian, who is seeded 5/8 knocked out the second seed Laura Gemmell of Canada after 68 minutes of keen tussle in the quarterfinals.
Dipika won 9-10, 9-4, 10-9, 10-9 and will face Egyptian Salma Nasser next.
In the same section, another Indian Anwesha Reddy fell in the last eight to Heba Alaa El Torky, the top seed.
Anwesha managed to grab one game but the Egyptian was far superior and won 9-0, 8-10, 9-5, 9-1, the match lasting 35 minutes.
In the boys’ under-19 section, Harinder Pal Sandhu went out in the third round, losing to Joe Lee of England in straight games 10-8, 9-7, 9-2 but Aditya Jagtap came up to the quarterfinals in the under-17 section before bowing out. Aditya lost to Karim Abdel Gawad 3-9, 9-4, 7-9, 9-2, 9-7.
Another Indian to make an exit was Mahesh Mangaonkar in the under-15 third round.
He lost to Karim Ali Fathi (Egypt) 2-9, 0-9, 8-10.
