Aniroudh stars in Don Bosco’s win

Aniroudh Baskaran’s 60-ball 103 powered Don Bosco (Egmore) to a 65-run victory over P.S. Senior in the Junior Super Kings inter-school T20 tournament (Chennai phase) on Tuesday.

The scores: St. Mary’s 55 in 18.5 overs lost to Santhome 58 for one in 11.4 overs.

Don Bosco (Egmore) 153 for five in 20 overs (Aniroudh Baskaran 103) bt P.S. Senior 88 for eight in 20 overs (M. Sairam 25, Daryl S. Ferrario three for nine).

The Ashram 110 for three in 20 overs (G. Nithrakanth 51 n.o., S. Subhash 29) lost to St. Bede’s 112 for two in 11.2 overs (G.K. Shyam 48 n.o., D. Anchit 37 n.o.).

St. Patrick’s 136 for eight in 20 overs (M. Vashist 40, R. Adithya 27, R. Chokkalingam 25, M. Vishwanarayanan three for 24) bt Dominic Savio (Santhome) 56 in 16.5 overs (Rameez Raja three for nine).

Chitresh does well

The Raymond India International Regatta 2013 opened with a practice race at the Chennai Harbour on Tuesday.

In the Optimist class, Chitresh from Tamil Nadu Sailing Association finished first. At one stage, six of the nine participating Malaysians were on the top. However they didn’t complete the race and sailed back ashore.

In the Laser 4.7s, Nicholas from TNSA finished first. The main races start on Wednesday with three races being scheduled.

Rameez triumphs

C. Rameez Samad handed out a 6-3, 6-3 defeat to Shivakumar Palani to bag the +45 title in The Rajah Muthiah ITF seniors Grade IV tennis tournament at Chidambaram recently.

The results: Singles: +45: C. Rameez Samad bt Shivakumar Palani 6-3, 6-3; +55:  Suresh Murthati bt Rakesh Kohli 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-1; +65: T. Balachandran bt. M. Krishnaswamy 6-3, 6-3.

Golf awards will launch the country’s first-ever India Golf awards, which will recognise and reward the game’s best ambassadors across the spectrum of professionals and amateurs.

The awards, backed by title sponsor Take Solutions, will start this year. The awards function will be held on November 5 at Gurgaon.

Hindustan reigns

Hindustan Arts and Science College clinched the title in the IIT-Gymkhana basketball tournament, defeating Bharat University 56-29 in the final here.

Aadesh, Sandhya to represent India

Chennai Rifle Club’s Aadesh K. Chetty and W. Sandhya have been selected to represent India in the sixth Asian junior shooting championship in rifle and pistol events in Iran from October 18 to 25.

Sports scholarships

St. Joseph’s Group of Institutions distributed Rs. 3.5 crores worth of sports scholarships to 82 of its students (37 girls and 45 boys). It includes full tuition waiver, free boarding and lodging and sports kits.
