Young Stars lodges protest with TNCA

Young Stars has lodged a protest with the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) on Saturday after its first-division game against AG’s Office was abandoned owing to poor pitch conditions.

Confirming the development, TNCA secretary K.S. Viswanathan told The Hindu that the League sub-committee will meet on September 27 to discuss the umpires’ report and the letter of protest.

The eighth-round match was abandoned before the tea interval on the final day, with AG’s Office — chasing a target of 218 — on 63 for seven in its second innings on Friday.

Lower division matches put off

All the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association lower division league matches scheduled to be held on September 22 stand postponed owing to inclement weather.

St. Joseph’s CoE triumphs

St. Joseph’s College of Engineering’s men and women athletic teams won the overall championship in their respective categories in the Anna University Zone III meet at the Anna University Grounds, here on Saturday.

St. Joseph’s CoE logged 140 points in the men’s section while Loyola-ICAM finished second with 21 points.

St. Joseph’s women took 97 points while St. Joseph’s Institute of Technology emerged second with 65 points.

MOP Vaishnav College won the Madras University A-zone inter-collegiate hockey tournament, beating SDNB Vaishnav College 5-0, thanks to outstanding performances by Sejina, Vimala and Jelestina.

In the semifinals MOP had beaten Queen Mary’s 4-0.
