Arnold Inigo and Oges Thejo captured the boys’ doubles title at the CTC-TTPPA AITA under-14 tennis tournament defeating Deepak Senthilkumar and Varun Vaiko Durai 6-2, 6-0 in the final here.

Other results: Singles (semifinals): Boys: S. Manish bt Anikait Venkat 6-3, 6-3; L.R. Balaji bt Dhakshineshwar Suresh 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Arun Kumar and Suri win

K. Arun Kumar and T.M. Suri, playing north-south, won the Mylapore Club monthly bridge tournament with a score of 61.70 IMPs. From the east-west direction, P. Narayan Iyer and C. Mohanakrishna came first with a score of 60.32 IMPs.

Other two positions: North-South: 2. V. Krishnan Iyer & V.K. Bansal, 3. Raj Kanoi & T.S. Vasudevan; East-West: 2. Hari & Lata Hari, 3. Sajiv Menon & Kannan.

DAV scrapes through

DAV edged Union Christian by a wicket in the Bhooma Teacher memorial under-16 cricket tournament on Thursday.

The scores: Union Christian 115 for eight in 30 overs (Srivachan three for 15) lost to DAV 118 for nine in 24 overs (Vijay Vignesh 42 n.o., Sunny Joseph three for 33, Akash four for 22).

Don Bosco Matriculation 123 for eight in 30 overs lost to St. Patrick’s 126 for five in 29 overs (Rajasekar 43, Vasisht 33).

TN team for Federation Cup

: The following players will represent Tamil Nadu in the Federation Cup hockey tournament to be held in New Delhi from July 23 to 28.

The team : Bharani, Nepolian, Satish, Stalin David, Allen, Senthil Kumar, Mustak, Shyam, Sivamani, Adam Sinclair, Vinod Rayar, Sathya, Albert, Amardeep Ekka, Rafeeq, Vasu, Prasath, Sangu Manikandan, Prakash. Chief coach : Senthil.

Sports scholarships awarded

SRM University awarded sports scholarships to the tune of Rs. 2,14,68,000 to 104 sportspersons admitted to various courses this year. The scholarships include full tuition, hostel accommodation, mess and transport. The boys and girls were selected from the 500 who attended the trials. The awardees included Rahul Raj and Prashanth (volleyball internationals), Martin Sanjeev (cricket), S.P. Sethuraman & Abhilash Reddy (chess), Nitin Thiruvengadam (table tennis), R. Manikandan (badminton) and Ms. R.S. Karpagam (basketball). Dr. P. Pariventhar, chancellor, presented the awards at a special function on Thursday.
