Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), Chennai hit a late equaliser to hold South Central Railway (SCR) 2-2 in the concluding round of the quarterfinal group league match of the Sahara 117th all-India Beighton Cup hockey here on Thursday.

Needing a win to ensure a place in the semifinals from Group ‘B’, the Secunderabad-based SCR squandered a 2-1 lead at half-time before conceding a late goal to IOB in the second half.

The drawn result was enough for Army XI, Bengaluru to make the semifinals on better goal average. SCR and Army XI were tied on four points in the fight for the second position. Defending champion Air India had already taken the top spot with seven points.

Last year’s runner-up Indian Oil, Mumbai blanked Punjab National Bank (PNB), Delhi 3-0 in the last Group ‘A’ match to earn full nine points and top the group standings. PNB took second position with six points.

In the semifinals on Saturday, Air India will meet PNB in the first match, while Indian Oil will take on Army XI in the second match. The final will be played on Sunday.
