Deepak nets winner
Deepak’s match-winner in the 16th-minute enabled Dynamites United HC snatch a 1-0 win over Chitradurga HC in a ‘C’ Division hockey league encounter at the KSHA stadium here on Thursday.
In an earlier match, SHBHC ‘B’, Gadag rallied to hold Bagalkot City Sports Club 1-1. Shrisail gave Bagalkot the lead in the 17th minute. However, Ravi Kiran restored parity with a 44th minute strike.
The results: Dynamites United HC 1 (Deepak 16) bt Chitradurga HC 0; Bagalkot City SC 1 (Shrisail 17) drew with SHBHC ‘B’ (Gadag) 1 (Ravi Kiran 44).
The annual Bengaluru Midnight marathon will be held at Whitefield here on Saturday night. More than 10,000 runners are expected to take part in the event that is organised by the Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor in tandem with Yes Bank. Athletes from the Indian army are also expected to compete in the run and race director Gul Muhammed Akbar said: “Our friends from the army can compete against any of the elite athletes sent from other countries including the African countries. We want to lead the way in encouraging other marathon organisers to concentrate on our friends from the army and give them the opportunity and the recognition.”
HASC posts win
HASC cruised past a major hurdle in the Super Division football league, edging past debutant South United FC (SUFC) 2-1 at the football stadium here on Thursday. HASC has a one win, one loss record in its two matches while it was the first defeat for SUFC in two matches.
The former champion went into the lead through Jagdish Kumar’s penalty. SUFC’s stopper Barry Orano brought down Jagdish when he was on a fine run inside the box and the resultant penalty, awarded by referee Vijaykumar, saw Jagdish taking the kick. His powerful shot was stopped by the SUFC custodian Harpreet Singh, but the resultant loose ball was netted in style by Jagdish on the rebound.
Vinodh Kumar made it 2-0 in the 63rd before Stephen pulled one back for the loser late in the match.
Earlier, BUFC snatched a solitary goal win over SAI in the ‘A’ Division. Akbar Ali scored the all-important goal for the winner in the 23rd minute.
