CHENNAI: For one who is still to win an individual title in the National squash championship, Aparajitha Balamurukan has already begun to make waves in international tournaments.

After the success in the Malaysian Open in the under-15 section recently, this Chennai Church Park School student had another grand moment when she won the under-15 title in the Penang Open thereafter.

According to National coach Cyrus Poncha, Aparajitha defeated another Indian Shria Khatri 7-9, 3-9, 9-6, 9-0, 9-2 in the final.

This is the fifth time that Aparajitha had participated in this tournament as also the Malaysian Open earlier.

Memorable finish

And at both places it proved a memorable finish for this 10th standard student, who trains at the ICL Academy here.

A member of the Indian team to the Asian junior championship to be held in Busan in a couple of weeks, this twin-success should augur well for Aparajitha, who will be playing in the under-15 section.

Another success story from Penang was that of Kush Kumar in the under-13 category. He won the title beating Gurshan Singh of Malaysia 9-4, 9-2, 9-7. — Special Correspondent
