The Andhra Pradesh six-a-side State hockey tournament, featuring clubs, academies, departments and institutions, will be held at Anantapur on March 2 and 3, said Hockey Andhra Pradesh secretary M. Niranjan Reddy here on Friday. The tournament, featuring 10 teams, will be played on a league-cum-knockout basis.

Initially, the tournament will be played at the zonal level in different venues. Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and West Godavari will be part of Central Zone and the matches will conclude on February 16.

The North Zone fixtures, with Vizianagaram, East Godavari, Srikakulam and host Visakhapatnam in the fray, will be held on February 19 and 20. Nellore, Chittoor, Kadapa and Kurnool will figure in the South Zone matches at Kurnool on February 23 and 24.

Mahaboobnagar will host the East Zone games, which will also involve Medak, Hyderabad and Nalgonda, on February 23 and 24.

“Two teams will qualify from each of the four zones and Anantapur, as host, will have the privilege of fielding two sides,” said Niranjan.

The duration of each match will be 30 minutes.
