Last year’s winner Andhra takes on Tamil Nadu at the ACA-VDCA stadium here in the all-India Vijay Merchant Trophy South Zone under-16 inter-State tournament which commences here on Friday.
Runner-up Hyderabad received a jolt when nine of its 15-member squad were found over-aged, a day before its match with Kerala.
According to information received here, BCCI has informed the Hyderabad Cricket Association that the nine players were over-aged. Replacements for the nine players were being sent and are expected to reach before the match commences.
Special Correspondent from Hyderabad adds: HCA Secretary M. V. Sridhar said this time the medical tests were done by the BCCI across the country. “Because of the delay in the conduct of the HCA Coca Cola Cup (under-16) tournament which concluded last month, the process of getting the relevant medical tests for all the probables was delayed,” he said.
“It is definitely unfortunate that some of them were found to be over-aged since we went by the date of birth certificates submitted by the players from their respective educational institutions,” Sridhar said. — Special Correspondent
